Both religious and irreligious people have heart motivations for good conduct in the world. For the religious it is to win God's approval, while the irreligious seek to feel good about themselves in how they impact those around them. The Gospel provides an entirely different motivation that is neither seeking to please God or other people, but simply living our lives in joyous gratitude for what Jesus did for us when He reconciled us to God.
